About Set Tempo

Set the tempo.
Reach your
potential.

At Set Tempo, we believe every player deserves coaching that’s built around them — not a one-size-fits-all session.

Set Tempo was founded by Jac Davies and CJ Craven with a simple idea: give something back to the next generation of players coming through. Both came up through the Welsh game, both are still competing in it, and both wanted the players behind them to have the kind of coaching they’d have benefited from at that age.

The rugby side of Set Tempo grew from a friendship that started at Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Glantaf, where Jac and Ioan Lloyd were schoolmates. Years later — with both having gone on to represent their clubs and their country — the ambition was the same one they’d had in school: put something back into Cardiff, and into the community that produced them.

Founded by coaches and players who understand the modern game, our mission is to help every player become the best version of themselves, both on and off the pitch. Whether you’re taking your first steps in football or rugby, or striving to perform at the highest level, our coaching is designed to accelerate development through purposeful, high-quality training.

Every session is tailored to the individual. We assess each player’s strengths, identify areas for improvement and create a clear development pathway that focuses on technical ability, tactical understanding, decision-making, physical performance and confidence. Through regular analysis and personalised feedback, players gain a deeper understanding of their game and the tools needed to continue improving beyond the training pitch.

But sport is about more than performance.

At Set Tempo, we’re committed to creating a positive, inclusive and supportive environment where every player feels valued, challenged and inspired. We understand the powerful impact sport has on mental wellbeing, confidence and personal development, which is why our sessions promote resilience, teamwork, discipline and enjoyment alongside technical development.

Our coaching philosophy is simple: develop better players by developing better people.

Whether through one-to-one coaching, small groups, club visits or performance programmes, every Set Tempo session is delivered with energy, professionalism and purpose — helping players improve with confidence, play with freedom and perform when it matters most.

How it works

Four steps, then
you’re on the grass.

Step 01

Book your session

Complete our booking form with a few details about the player, including their age, sport, playing experience and what they’d like to improve.

Step 02

Train with Set Tempo

Attend a high-intensity, high-quality coaching session tailored to the player’s individual needs. Every session is designed to maximise touches, challenge decision-making and accelerate development in a positive environment.

Step 03

Receive expert feedback

Throughout the session, our coaches provide detailed coaching points, technical corrections and personalised feedback. Where appropriate, we also use performance analysis to help players better understand their game and identify areas for continued improvement.

Step 04

Perform on matchday

Take what you’ve learned into training and matchday with greater confidence and understanding. Every session builds towards long-term development, with clear objectives to carry into the next Set Tempo session.

Everything is built
on enjoyment.

Players who love being there keep turning up, keep trying things and keep improving. That’s the base of the pyramid — everything above it is built on top.

Loads of ball time. High touch frequency in sharp, well-run drills.

Parent

The first thing my son said walking off the pitch was “I really like the coaches”. It matters that coaches engage with the kids, especially when they’re young. Great work, guys.

Parent

My daughter likes swapping between the coaches every 15–20 minutes — you each teach her something different.

Parent

Consistent guidance throughout the session, both verbal and visual.

Parent

Really fun — I can’t wait to go back! I loved the drill with the mini goals, and celebrating my goals with Fumpa.

Player

The coaches’ energy. It carried the whole session.

Before you book

Questions we
get asked.

What ages do you coach?

We work with players of all ages and abilities, from those just starting out to players in club and academy setups. Tell us the player’s age on the booking form and we’ll match them to the right coach and group.

Does my child need to be at a club already?

No. Plenty of the players we coach are at clubs, and plenty aren’t. Sessions are built around the individual either way.

How many players are in a small group session?

Small genuinely means small — a handful of players of a similar age and level, so everyone gets coached rather than queued.

What should we bring?

Boots or trainers appropriate to the surface, shin pads for football, a drink, and weather-appropriate kit. We bring everything else.

Can we book as a group of friends or teammates?

Yes, and it’s one of our favourite ways to run a session. Put the names on the booking form and we’ll sort the rest.

How much does it cost?

It depends on session length, group size and location. Send us the details through the booking form and we’ll come back with a price straight away. Club visits are free.

Where do sessions take place?

We use quality 3G and grass facilities, and we can also come to your club. Let us know roughly where you’re based and we’ll confirm the nearest venue.
